PHOTO MOMENT: HEM wallpaper by Alex Smithson

The Photo moment this Saturday comes courtesy of Alex Smithson of the blog “Photography – Nature” (to be renamed “Mother Nature” in 2014). Alex and I have struck up a great friendship over our blogging activities. As you may know, Alex’s blog is dedicated to his hobby of nature photography, particularly natural environmental scenes and local wildlife as well news stories and articles on the visual changes he makes to his blog. Alex is also a dab hand at technology. He creates images and graphics using open-source GIMP software and has completely taken me by surprise by producing these special edition iPad images for the Half-Eaten Mind.

Alex has kindly produced two versions of the HEM wallpaper, both optimised for use as backgrounds for the iPad. One is of a resolution of 1024 x 1024 for the original iPad mini, and the other version, which occupies a higher res of 2048 x 2048, is tailor-made for the more recent iPad Mini with “Retina Display”. The wallpapers are finished with a traditional faded-out red and green colour scheme, which relates to the same colour scheme employed by Alex’s site to celebrate Christmas. The typefaces are reminiscent of Eighties video games like Super Mario.

I was very impressed with Alex’s work and felt he deserved an article dedicated to his graphical skills. If you want to see what else Alex has been working on behind the blogging scenes at Photography – Nature, then visit asterisk15.wordpress.com and witness the new blog experience for yourself. I have featured some links as well in the Zemanta article list below for added ease.
