Working as a delivery driver for big-name logistics and retail companies is a hard slog, and it is difficult to find time for toilet breaks during the long hours drivers work to pay the bills, but one driver working for Amazon in the U.K. could not hold it in any longer and made for some strange headlines after being caught by a householder urinating in the person’s driveway.
According to the Bognor Regis Observer, which serves the town of Bognor Regis in West Sussex county, southern England, a family were at home awaiting a parcel when they spotted the delivery driver taking a ‘leak’ next to their parked car. The incident occurred over a week ago at the home of Tracey Krelle and her partner in Linnett Close, Littlehampton, when two Amazon delivery staff came to deliver a bottle of whiskey.
One of the drivers handed the parcel over to Ms Krelle, when she heard a sound like ‘running water’, she told the Bognor Regis Observer.
“I asked ‘What is that noise? Has someone turned on a tap?’
“I then realised he’d done a wee, because he then got back into the van.”
A ‘wee’ is colloquial English slang for a moment of urination.
She said she was ‘horrified, upset, disgusted and devastated’ by the whole affair, adding: “The thought of someone doing that is just grim.” Her husband Matt also witnessed the incident.
He told the newspaper: “The kids were in the car with me and then I hear my 14-year-old saying ‘it was all frothy’. I asked what he was talking about, and he said ‘that man’s wee – it was all frothy’.”
The husband confronted the delivery personnel, who denied spilling their human waste on the Krelle property. Said Mr Krelle: “I’m absolutely fuming. It was disgusting. Although the whiskey was in the usual Amazon box, my wife refused to touch it and we got rid of it.”. The couple, disgusted and angered by what they saw, were forced to clean up the spoiled driveway with washing-up liquid and water and then sent a formal complaint to Amazon.
The online shopping firm dispatched representatives to the Krelles’ home to view CCTV footage the family had shot of the incident outside their home. The company also handed over a Christmas hamper by way of apology and have filed a report to Sussex Police
A spokesperson for the police force confirmed Amazon’s filing of an incident report, saying: “This incident has been reported to Amazon, which is dealing with it in accordance with its policies and procedures.”
Amazon itself said: “This does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery service providers.
“We are investigating and have been in direct communication with the customer.”
