NEWS DIGEST 18.07.2021: Anjem Choudary public speaking ban to expire, other stories

Good morning. On a very hot day here in Seven Kings, our news digest comes from local news aggregator InYourArea.

Radical preacher Anjem Choudary’s ban on public speaking is set to be lifted as his licence conditions expire. More than 20 licence conditions on Choudary will expire on Sunday, the Press Association news agency understands. Choudary, from Ilford, East London, was jailed for five and a half years. Choudary had long been viewed as a radicalising influence but managed to stay on the right side of the law until his conviction. There is no suggestion Choudary organised attacks, but Michael Adebolajo, one of Fusilier Lee Rigby’s murderers, and Khuram Butt, the ringleader of the London Bridge terror attack, were linked to al-Muhajiroun (ALM). Usman Khan, who carried out the Fishmongers’ Hall attack and killed two people, was interested in Choudary’s views as a teenager and Lewis Ludlow, the Muslim convert who planned a terror attack on Oxford Street in London, had attended one of his and ALM’s demonstrations – Radical preacher Anjem Choudary’s public speaking ban to expire (LBC)

A grime rapper who has worked with Dizzee Rascal is being hunted by cops after a driver reversed into a police car and sped off into oncoming traffic with a baby on the backseat. When the driver suddenly started the ignition and headed west along the eastbound carriageway of the A12 Eastern Avenue, there was a baby inside the vehicle, police said. Met Police said Aisa Khan Sampson-Spencer, also known as Merky Ace, who is thought to be the man captured on the officer’s body worn cameras, was wearing a black flat cap, brown-framed glasses and a dark blue padded gilet over a black long sleeved top with Nike written down the sleeves in white. Police said Sampson-Spencer and the vehicle both have links to Croydon and Greenwich in south London as well as Barking and Dagenham, east London. Ricardo Fuller attended a friend’s 30th birthday party at a nightclub on Ilford High Road on March 7 last year when he was fatally stabbed in the neck. Police and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene, with Mr Fuller taken to an east London hospital for treatment where he died a few hours later. Two of the five men involved in his killing have returned to the UK and were both arrested on arrival, put before the courts and remanded in custody. The force said a £10,000 reward is available for information that leads to their arrest and conviction. The police said: “We know that these men will still be in contact with family and friends in the UK. There are people in the very community where Ricardo was killed who will know where those responsible are hiding.” Earlier this year, Mr Fuller’s mother, Vicky Fuller, said in a statement issued through the Met Police that Mr Fuller has been “denied of so many things,” adding: “Life will never be the same” – Ricardo Fuller murder: Police offer £10,000 reward as they hunt three men who fled the UK (Evening Standard News Crime)
