CHRISTMAS 2015: HEM festive graphic

This year’s wallpaper is influenced by the humble Christmas tree, with its merry decoration and celebration of creativity and light. The basis for this year’s graphic is a picture from a photo wallpaper site, the Wallpaper Abyss, depicting a row of trees decked out in blue fairy lights. The text used aligns with the photo’s colour scheme very well and keeps the theme running. I prepped the image using an old favourite of ours, piZap. It took only around fifteen minutes yesterday morning and is now officially launched today. It will be used here and on the Half-Eaten Mind Facebook … Continue reading CHRISTMAS 2015: HEM festive graphic

PHOTO MOMENT: My niece Shaniya’s fifth birthday

This 18th September 2014, my niece Shaniya turns a half-decade old. Only a few weeks short of her fifth birthday, she has grown to a remarkably intelligent and polite little girl. This week, she started reception class at a nearby primary school after being done with nursery. She got to meet her new teacher, Mrs. Cook and a host of new friends and seems to adapting well to the new environment. I have already sorted out a couple of nice presents for her, of which one still is being waited on to be delivered. I’m not sure what her parents … Continue reading PHOTO MOMENT: My niece Shaniya’s fifth birthday

HEM THE LONDON BLOG: Our new header image goes live

When it comes to creativity and just making things happen, I’m a bit of a ‘night owl’. That doesn’t mean growing feathers, hooting like an idiot and silently divebombing the local drunkards. But it does explain why we have an owl for the blog‘s mascot. What I really mean is that some of my best ideas, thoughts and plans come to me in the dead of night, when everything is quiet and I’ve got me a space to think. It was exactly such a night only yesterday that an idea that had brewed around in my mind finally took a concrete … Continue reading HEM THE LONDON BLOG: Our new header image goes live

HEM TURNS TWO: The Half-Eaten Mind marks its second anniversary

Yesterday was a very special day for the Half-Eaten Mind. While for the owner it was yet another long one at work and surviving the Hammersmith and City line followed by buses that just don’t want to wait for you, the blog has marked two years since its establishment on the 16th April, 2012. That’s a whole two years of news stories covering the globe, of entertaining and visually powerful features on a variety of subjects, hordes of awards and of course, the dozens of friends and supporters I have made along the way. It has been a great twenty-four months, in … Continue reading HEM TURNS TWO: The Half-Eaten Mind marks its second anniversary

PHOTO MOMENT: Anjali’s New Year’s Greetings

with Anjali Shah (image designer & contributor) Hey heeeeyy!! This is not only the Half-Eaten Mind’s first Photo Moment of 2014, it is also our first article full-stop, and today it comes courtesy of piZap whizzkid, little sister and loyal contributor Anjali. I was expecting New Year‘s Eve to be a quiet one for me. The weather was atrocious, with the streets sodden with rain and a horrible wind blowing all over. Just as I had finished dinner, I got a text from one of my brothers asking me to come down his place. As I had already eaten and … Continue reading PHOTO MOMENT: Anjali’s New Year’s Greetings

WALLPAPER: Christmas 2013

Vijay Shah To welcome in the Christmas festive season, I have produced the latest in the series of the Half-Eaten Mind’s wallpapers to mark major festivals. This time round we have created a picture uniquely for the blog at Christmas, thanks to my newly-learned skills at graphical design. The new wallpaper draws on a traditional British/US/northern European interpretation of Xmas celebration, with an emphasis on the darling of kids (and some adults) everywhere, Santa Claus, and of course, lots of snowflakes and a really cool Christmas tree. Here in London, the festive season has already kicked off, with co-workers in … Continue reading WALLPAPER: Christmas 2013

WALLPAPER: Diwali 2013/2070

Vijay Shah (writing/editing/images) Anjali Shah (images/contribution) To celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, this coming November, the Half-Eaten Mind is unveiling not one, but two special created images to celebrate the festive season – one produced by me and the other made by my youngest sister Anjali, who very much initiated me into the hallowed ways of online image design. With just over a week left until the big day to go, we spent last night simultaneously working on these commemorative images using our old favourite, piZap. There was plenty of coordination and correspondence via email and Twitter. Because … Continue reading WALLPAPER: Diwali 2013/2070

ANNOUNCEMENT: New blog header image

Vijay Shah Makeovers can have unexpected consequences. A couple of years ago, the international clothing chain GAP decided to change its logo and adopt a streamlined sans-serif version as part of its branding revitalisation. The customer backlash against the company’s image change was so unexpectedly severe that Gap hurriedly switched back to its old emblem along with a profuse apology. Likewise when the company behind the cherished Yellow Pages business directories renamed itself “hibu”, people were left confused about what exactly the hell hibu actually meant, with the design team behind the name change recently admitting that they did not know … Continue reading ANNOUNCEMENT: New blog header image

PHOTO MOMENT: Celebrating my niece’s fourth birthday

Vijay Shah Today’s Photo Moment is in honour of my niece, Shaniya, who turns four years old on the 18th of September 2013 – three days from now. To celebrate this occasion I spent a good hour yesterday night on photo editing website piZap, creating two colourful masterpieces to give as ‘virtual gifts’ to her mother for her. I created these images as well as to show my love and happiness as an uncle to a darling adorable angel-princess. Shaniya has always guaranteed lots of smiles and giggles, and she has been a shining and cheerful addition to our family. … Continue reading PHOTO MOMENT: Celebrating my niece’s fourth birthday

PHOTO MOMENT: New Twitter header image

Vijay Shah Here is a quick announcement from the office of the Half-Eaten Mind. I have just created a new Twitter header image in collaboration with the photo-editing software piZap, which has been featured a few times on the blog.     For those among my friends, family and supporting bloggers who are following me (and being followed by yours truly) on Twitter, you may have noticed the current header image of two tower blocks (apartment complexes) and dawn-tinged cirrus clouds which also is used as the header image for the Half-Eaten Mind. This has been a feature of my personal profile … Continue reading PHOTO MOMENT: New Twitter header image
