NUTS ABOUT NUTELLA?: French shoppers riot over heavily discounted chocolate spread

Paris – VIJAY SHAH via CHRIS BAYNES and The Independent Everyone loves a bargain. But on the negative side, a shopper’s paradise can very rapidly turn into a shopper’s nightmare when people turn ugly over bagging cut-price goods. Just ask any retail worker on a Black Friday in Britain. That free-for-all mentality became very obvious this past week in France, when local supermarket chain Intermarché heavily reduced the price of Nutella hazelnut and chocolate spread, only for riots to ensure and people reported injured in mad scrambles and store fisticuffs. Intermarché unveiled a special promo on the popular spread, manufactured … Continue reading NUTS ABOUT NUTELLA?: French shoppers riot over heavily discounted chocolate spread

VIDEO MOMENT: The Choco Kebab

Like most young British men (and women), I am very fond of kebabs, the Turkish, Greek and Central Asian fast food delicacy of meat and vegetables in a bread pocket. Since the doner kebab and its equally delicious siblings began appearing on the high streets here in the 1970s, the food has become a staple of pub crawls, family get-togethers and football matches. So, when I was shown this video by my sister yesterday, which is usually kebab night for me, I just had to share this with you as a kebab fan. I’m also a chocaholic, so when … Continue reading VIDEO MOMENT: The Choco Kebab

PHOTO MOMENT: Cadbury’s Christmas chocolate

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a big chunky bar of chocolate. If it’s festive chocolate, even better. One thing I can tell you about retailers in Britain is that they are so passionate about Christmas that they start bringing out festive themed goodies a good few months in advance. In fact the receptionist at my workplace was even telling me how some shops have already started playing Yuletide carols…and this was on Hallowe’en!! Chocolate maker Cadbury’s, home of the recently revived Wispa bar, among other niceties, has brought out a new chocolate bar that will join their family-sized Dairy Milk collection … Continue reading PHOTO MOMENT: Cadbury’s Christmas chocolate

GIF MOMENT: Easter 2014

In the United Kingdom, the days from the 18th to the 21st April are the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. I have booked a day off work so that means an impressive five-day long rest, which honestly I badly need. Easter is one of the most important Christian festivals celebrated here, and over much of the world. Children and parents look forward to munching their way through tonnes of chocolate Easter eggs and for many churchgoers it is a time to reflect on the lifetime of their religion’s founder Jesus Christ and his dying and resurrection for mankind’s sins. For the less … Continue reading GIF MOMENT: Easter 2014

WE WILL FIND YOU!!: Nestlé’s GPS chocolate bar promotion

It is a cool summer’s morning. A random person enters a newsagents to buy a quick chocolate-based snack to quieten his/her growling stomach. He or she is no different to any other random person milling around the high street. He/she buys a Kit-Kat, tears through its wrapper and begins extracting the crunchy chocolate and wafer fingers. Suddenly the sky turns black as a dark military helicopter appears overhead. In amongst the sudden strong winds and flying crisp packets, streams of commandos rappel down and surround the random person. All hell seems to be breaking loose. A  commando kneels in front … Continue reading WE WILL FIND YOU!!: Nestlé’s GPS chocolate bar promotion
